Gibson Melody Maker 1959 - Sunburst - Excellent Condition
For sale today is a Gibson Melody Maker in sunburst from 1959. This guitar is in really great shape with minimal wear considering it is 65 years old. The guitar plays like an absolute dream and sings like a bird. The neck and body are made from mahogany and the fretboard is Brazilian rosewood.
Looking under the hood, it appears that the cap has been changed but that the pots are both the correct Centralab pots. The frets appear to be original as well, are not overly pitted and still play great without any buzz or fret-out. The guitar really does come to life with its knobs. The finish does show some signs of wear (dings and clear coat scratches) which are photographed and do not affect the guitars structural integrity or playability. That being said, it is still extremely clean in comparison all the other 50's Melody Makers we have seen. The tone knob when lightly rolled off gives you a sweetness that you would expect from a neck pickup, with the tone wide open, the clarity is amazing. We did our best to showcase the guitar and its condition in the photos but if you would like something specific, please feel free to ask.
The tuners are all in great shape and function as they should. It intonates nearly to perfection without any compensation on the wraparound bridge which is miraculous and adds to the "cool" factor of this Gibson. The weight is 5 lbs 11 oz. It will include the original strap (nylon cord) and the RARE original gig bag which is featured in the photos.
Thank you for looking at this great guitar and please let us know if you have any additional questions. Have a great day!
